The South Korean suit, noted by The Korea Times, takes particular issue with Fortnite's battle royale mode. "Fortnite" has a similar concept of 100 people competing with each other, but differs by letting players build fortifications similar to Minecraft and using more cartoon-like graphics aimed at younger players. The last time a licensor tried to sue Epic Games, it put Too Human developer Silicon Knights out of business when Epic countersued and won in court.
The two companies have a complicated relationship.
"Starting this week with the v4.3 update we will be updating the Weekly Challenges on every Thursday rather than with the update for the remainder of Season 4", Epic Games' community coordinator Nathan "JustMooney1" Mooney said on Reddit.
Only Syrian army should have presence in south, say Russian Federation and Israel
Israel has warned it will not tolerate a permanent Iranian military presence in Syria. It stressed that the Syrian army was determined to retake all parts of Syria.
This new suit is unusual because both companies are partly owned by technology giant Tencent.
Of course, it isn't hard to see why PUBG Corp. and Bluehole are concerned about Fortnite. The lawsuit wants a court to decide if Fortnite, or at least aspects of it, such as the UI or in-game items, were copied from PUBG.
"Fortnite" and "PlayersUnknown's Battlegrounds" differ in artistic style, with Epic's game having more of a fantasy look and PUBG's a grittier, more "realistic" one like such traditional first-person shooter games as "Battlefield" and "Call of Duty". Given that Fortnite and PUBG still regularly have millions of concurrent players, it's fair to say that there's still plenty of space for players within the genre. More than half of "Fortnite" watchers were tuned in to popular streamer Ninja, a former "PUBG" player who ditched it for "Fortnite" earlier this year. We still don't have any concrete information on how it moves, but it probably means that 1 player can push you around and both of you can achieve high speeds, white one shoots or is focused on shooting down enemies. Meanwhile, "Fortnite" is now the largest free-to-play console game of all time, and it's dominating PC and mobile as well.
