Apple today announced iOS 12, the first major update for its iPhones, iPads, and iPods this ear.

A number of under-the-hood tweaks will see a major software-wide performance boost, according to Apple, particularly on older devices.

iOS 12 will be available on all of the same devices as iOS 11, which means it'll be supported on iPhone 5S and above, all iPad Air and Pro models, iPad mini 2 and above and the 6th-gen iPod Touch. These new features, available later this month as part of the iOS 12 public beta, include Activity Reports, App Limits and new Do Not Disturb and Notifications controls created to help customers reduce interruptions and manage screen time for themselves and their families.

The new operating system will also let users control how notifications are delivered to reduce interruptions, including the ability to group together notifications or turn them off completely.

Will be automatically activated during bedtime, so you are no longer distracted when trying to sleep. For instance, if you use a Tile to keep an eye on your keys saying "Where's my Tile" will instantly bring up your keys location.

Do Not Disturb can now also be used for a set time period.

Screen Time: A new app that provides daily reports on how much time you are spending on your apps, what apps are sending you the most notifications, what type of apps you are using (productivity, social, and more).

The Messages app is improved with four new Animojis (coala, ghost, t-rex, and tiger) and brand-new tongue detection.

Memoji will let you create an avatar based on your own looks. Apple is adding a new for your tab, similar to Microsoft' carousel in the Photos app on Windows 10. Kind of like Snapchat. Group FaceTime will be integrated into iMessage, meaning settling your group chat's Friday night plans just got a whole lot easier.

FaceTime will be able to host 32 video tiles at once, with the tiles expanding and shrinking depending on who's talking.

Users can also converse on Group FaceTime with Animoji and Memoji characters, which brings us to yet another exciting addition. More details can be found in our iOS 12 post. All powered by on-device machine learning. If you want to use Facebook features on a website, you'll get a prompt asking if you want Facebook.com to access your cookies and website data. With Siri Shortcuts, users will be able to build their own commands with any application. It will also give you access to some pre-made shortcuts by other users, Apple, and third-parties. There has been no word from Unity 3D about Unity supporting ARKit 2, but we expect to hear more about that soon. The Cupertino company typically uses WWDC to show off the new features coming to iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Adobe will also add native USDZ support for Creative Cloud suite. The Measure app will also allow people to measure objects in augmented reality, by dragging their viewfinder across an object in the real world. You can now search for your favourite channels, news sources, and more.
