Internet conspiracy theories about "missing Melania" weren't helped by reports over the weekend that the first lady will not be attending the upcoming G7 summit or the 12 June summit in Singapore with her husband.
She did attend an event to honour the Gold Star military families at the White House Monday, but the event was closed to the press.
Melania Trump is planning her first public appearance outside the White House in almost a month. As you might expect, she is dressed in black and sitting in the front row next to her husband.
Even Trump himself got in on the jokes, making mention of the buzz around Melania's disappearance during his speech to the Gold Star families.
Medical reason behind Serena's superhero catsuit
Speaking after a hard-fought victory against Australian Ashleigh Barty, Serena said, "I'm probably not where I was before I left". Sharapova is going to have a hard time winning this match in her current form, as her serve isn't where it needs to be.
Ms. Grisham, the first lady's spokeswoman, dismissed curiosity about her travel, saying that it was "pretty typical" not to travel after a medical procedure.
On Wednesday, Melania confronted the media speculating about her whereabouts tweeting, "I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing".
Or someone has designed a robot that looks just like the first lady, at least from a distance.
It's not clear she would have gone anyway, but previous year she traveled with the president overseas for various global meetings and tours, including the G7 Summit in Italy, where Trump wowed the locals in a $51,000 Dolce & Gabbana coat.
According to celebrity website HollywoodLife, Mrs Trump's friends outside the White House are "genuinely" starting to worry about her. There was a chance she could have made an appearance this week, but The Hill reported that she would not be attending a "Celebration of America" event at the White House on Tuesday.
Jena Greene, a Gold Star daughter, tweeted the president told the room, "Melania had a little problem a couple weeks ago but she wouldn't miss this for anything". "The language and syntax sounded so suspiciously like like a certain social media addict, it only served to fuel the flames", says Vanity Fair. "For all we know, maybe she does understand what the expectations are but just chooses not to play that game".
