Trump says in a television interview that he's going into the meeting with "low expectations".
"I go in with very low expectations. I'm not going with high expectations".
Bolton said Trump would talk about the issue with Putin.
Trump has feuded with the USA news media throughout his 18-month presidency, nearly daily branding stories he doesn't like as "fake news". "So this is an attempt to see if we can defuse and take some of the drama and quite frankly some of the danger out of the relationship right now".
Bolton's comments come two days after the special counsel Robert Mueller brought charges against 12 Russian military intelligence officers, accusing them of hacking, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering - efforts to interfere in the 2016 USA presidential election that Bolton said it was "hard to believe" Putin didn't know about.

"Now", Bolton added, "we'll have to see given that these are allegations concerning GRU agents obviously part of the Russian state, what he says about it now".
