Last week, Bills wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin blamed his struggles with the Carolina Panthers on not being able to play with an "accurate" quarterback "with knowledge."

"I mean, I felt like I would've been even more successful if ..."

For those who haven't heard, Benjamin didn't hold back in his public criticism of his former teammate.

According to The Charlotte Observer's Jourdan Rodrigue, there was no smiling involved and Benjamin "shrugged [Newton] off mid-sentence" and started to walk away.

Benjamin, a first-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2014 NFL Draft, recently took shots at his former team in an interview with The Athletic.

Signing a centre half is still the priority and the club are favourites to sign Yerry Mina from Barcelona for around £27 million. The Merseysiders are understood to have been keen on Mina since his stellar displays for Colombia at the World Cup.

After Benjamin's comments were published, McDermott expressed disapproval, saying Sunday (via ESPN), "There's a time and a place - I'm not saying specific to what comments were made - there's a time and place for things like that".

When Benjamin said Newton was an inaccurate passer last week, the quarterback didn't seem bothered by it.

"If you would've put me with any other quarterback, let's be real, you know what I'm saying?"

The Buffalo Bills opened their first preseason game of 2018 with second-year quarterback Nathan Peterman under center. "So we'll move forward as a team, and I'm hoping we've already done that". "I should've never went to Carolina".
