On the same day, Twitch - owned by Amazon - also announced the removal of a major Twitch Prime benefit: universal ad-free viewing. You can use your free monthly channel subscription to strike ads for that particular channel. Twitch Prime has been offering their customers ad-free viewing, but all that is about to change.
Twitch might be getting big enough to renegotiate its arrangement with parent company Amazon, but that's not the only gaming bonus that Prime subscribers are losing.
Amazon Prime used to offer substantial discounts for members pre-ordering video games. So you might get up to one year of ad-free viewing if you act fast.
Chelsea can produce magic with Sarri in charge - Hazard
Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata insists he never thought of leaving Stamford Bridge this summer. We were not able to recover the lost ball, or press in the other half as a team.
This comes as Twitch - which lets gamers record and share in-game videos - realizes that advertising is "an important source of support for creators", according to the company's blog post. If you have an annual subscription, or if you upgrade to one before September 14th, you will get ad-free viewing until your next renewal date. Instead, Prime members' accounts will be credited $10 for every game they pre-order. "We want Twitch to remain a place where anyone can enjoy one-of-a-kind interactive entertainment, and ads allow us to continue making Twitch the best place for creators to build communities around the things they love and make money doing it". The promotional credit only lasts for 60 days and is limited to products sold directly sold by Amazon, not by third-party retailers. A Reddit thread on the change is full of gamers threatening to kill their Prime subscriptions over the elimination of the 20 percent discount. All Twitch viewers can get ad-free viewing across all channels by subscribing to Twitch Turbo (read about Turbo right here). However, Twitch Prime probably wasn't generating much money for the platform; it now comes as a free benefit tacked on to Amazon Prime.
But just because Amazon is bringing ads to Twitch Prime doesn't mean you'll have to watch any adverts going forward.
