MTV asked Madonna to honor Aretha Franklin, who died Thursday, during her intro for the video of the year victor announcement.

Franklin passed away last week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The loss was felt acutely, as all across the nation (and the world) people expressed their condolences and memories of the legendary singer.

"I turned on the VMAS for the first time in years & Madonna just rambled about herself for like 10 mins during an Aretha Franklin tribute & then announced that Havana is the video of the year", a second said.

Madge illuminated the fact that Franklin served as an inspiration to so many burgeoning singers.

MTV was mum with the details, but Madonna dropped some hints on social media that she would be handling the Queen of Soul's memorial. Fortunately one of my favorite albums was Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin.

"After the show, my manager said my career was over", she said with a sinister smirk. Actually, who everyone?Show some R-E-S-P-E-C-TMadonna gets roasted P.S. why is Travis Scott dressed like a minion?

"A couple of months ago, a lot of people were saying, "You are gambling your career, you are having a baby". but I had the baby and now I still win an award", she told the crowd. "Some skinny ass white girl is going to come up here and belt out a song by one of the greatest soul singers that ever lived, a capella?" Madonna said after telling the long story.

Brief Korean reunions bring tears for separated families
The ministry estimates there are now about 600,000 to 700,000 South Koreans with immediate or extended relatives in North Korea . In the decades since the Korean War, the Red Cross has reunited many families but thousands of others have missed out.

"I want to thank you, Aretha, for empowering all of us". I had to think fast. "A capella? I said, 'Bitch, I'm Madonna, '" Madonna said, as the audience cheered.

It didn't take long before Madonna became a trending topic on Twitter, as the Internet called out the pop superstar for turning what was supposed to be a tribute to Franklin into a Madonna monologue.

"I love you ty for unbelievable us with your attractive and powerful speech you're fantastic", another fan added.

"Does Madonna know Madonna didn't die", sportscaster Katie Nolan wrote.

Another wondered why MTV didn't ask a black artist to give the tribute instead.

You can check out one of the better parts of the tribute in the tweet below. "She epitomized white feminism @ the Women's March...and let's not forget her centering herself in The Carter's historic moment".
