Therefore, in theory, the Snapdragon 855 could be quite a bit faster than the A12 Bionic, but that remains to be seen when devices with it ship in the first half of 2019. Make no mistake, the internal platform name of "sm8150" had been accurate all along, but the company chose to continue their existing branding scheme for the next mobile platform's marketing name-not unlike older Qualcomm flagship mobile platforms like the msm8996 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 820) or msm8974 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800).

AI Performance Boost: The Snapdragon 855 includes Qualcomm's 4th-gen multi-core AI engine, which should deliver a 3x performance boost in artificial intelligence features over the Snapdragon 845. In contrast to now available optical in-display fingerprint sensors, such as the one that's available in the OnePlus 6T, the company's new 3D Sonic Sensor technology uses ultrasonic waves to capture and authenticate an individual's fingerprint instead of a 2D image. Currently, most in-display fingerprint sensors use optical sensors, so they shine light up through the screen to read your fingerprint on the display.
Together with a new Kryo CPU core (likely based on Cortex-A76), the chip is expected to see an increase in performance of 45% over the CPU found in the Snapdragon 845. Beyond that, there's not much else we can tell you today.
