German national team coach Joachim Low has revealed that key trio Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller will no longer be considered for selection in the Germany squad.

"I thank Mats, Jerome and Thomas for the many successful, extraordinary and unique years we shared but in the national team it is now all about laying the foundations for the future. I continue to feel very connected to them and am thankful for the time we spent together in the national team".

Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels were all informed on Tuesday that they were no longer in Low's plans, part of an ongoing shake-up following Germany's woeful performance at last year's World Cup. Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller will no longer be in the squad of the national team.

Loew says he wants to make clear the time is right for a "new start" before qualifying for the 2020 European Championship begins.

"We want to continue the upheaval that we initiated at the end of a year ago". I'm convinced that that is the correct step.

'I have no understanding for the suggested definitiveness of this decision.

'It was important for me to personally explain my decision to the players and the FC Bayern management'.

Defenders Boateng and Hummels, both 30, and 29-year-old forward Muller had been mainstays of the setup under Low, but the coach said he wanted to give his team "a new face" after last year's World Cup group stage exit.

"Basically we do not comment on the sporting decisions of the national coach".

"The young national team players will have the space they need to fully develop. Now it's up to them to take responsibility".

Germany experienced a disastrous 2018.

Loew's decision heralds the end of an impressive global career for Mueller, who broke through as a raw 20-year-old at the 2010 World Cup and went on to score 38 goals in 100 appearances.

"We were surprised that this happened as part of an unannounced visit at (Bayern training complex) Saebener Strasse", said Rummenigge and Salihamidzic.

'I was always extremely proud to wear the national team top and I will never forget the summer of 2014.

"I am sad about this news because it has always been the greatest thing for me to represent my country".

"I was young myself and reliant on older players to make room for me. But I would have obviously wished for a different departure".
