World No. 1 Naomi Osaka launched her title defense at the BNP Paribas Open with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in a grudge match against Kristina Mladenovic on Saturday.

Mladenovic's 94-minute victory booked her a blockbuster clash with Australian Open champion Osaka after she upstaged the Japanese star at the Dubai Tennis Championships in February.
