In March 2017, Trump accused his predecessor in the White House, Barack Obama, of "wire tapping" the Trump Tower offices in NY before the presidential election in November 2016, claiming the former president had overseen a "Nixon/Watergate"-style intervention". That was one of four criteria Barr has said he is using to redact Mueller's almost 400-page report.
However, as reported by CNN's Manu Raju, he justified his decision to personally clear the president of obstruction charges by saying, "that's generally how the Department of Justice works". Speaking to a House appropriations subcommittee, Barr also said on Tuesday that the use of surveillance would be the subject of a report this summer by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
'What I'm most interested in is getting started. on going back to the origins of exactly where this all started, ' the president continued, repeating his call for an investigation of the origins of the Russian Federation probe.
He added he does not know why Mueller declined to review the four-page document Barr released about his report, except for wanting to have deniability.

Barr said Wednesday he expects to release a redacted version of the Mueller report next week, but Pelosi said it's only a "matter of time" before the full report is made public. The president did not name them but has previously blamed Justice Department officials and former FBI Director James Comey.
During Wednesday's hearing, Barr responded to a question about news reports that he had a special team looking at why the FBI opened a special investigation of Trump during the 2016 campaign.
"I'm not suggesting it wasn't adequately predicted, but I need to explore that".
It was Hillary Clinton's campaign, as well as the Democratic National Committee (DNC), which had hired Fusion GPS-through their law firm Perkins Coie-to produce the dossier.
